My first Me Made May outfit!
This is the year people! The year I join in for Me Made May. I have known about Me Made May since I began blogging, but have never felt that I had enough day to day clothing to participate. When I first began sewing I, like many others, didn’t have a real sense of my style and wanted to sew ALL the pretty dresses. It was fun and I love my pretty dresses, but I am not a fast sewer and a single dress could end up taking a month. So my wardrobe did not grow quickly. Recently I have been sewing more knits, and more importantly sewing with no fear, so my wardrobe has been growing quickly and I finally feel ready to take on Me Made May.
In real life I am a Pilates instructor, not a fabulous sewing goddess. This means that many of my days are spent in workout gear. I have plans to begin sewing workout clothing, but have not began yet. I decided to delve in to funner projects that I find more instantly rewarding, but not necessarily applicable to work. Eventually I will get there with a handmade work wardrobe, but for now I want my hobby to be fun and personally rewarding, for me this has meant keeping my work wardrobe out of the equation.
What I have been focusing on instead is a travel wardrobe for my trip to NYC at the end of the month. I am so excited! Planning a handmade wardrobe for NYC is sooooooo much more fun than sewing yoga pants for work (although I plan on picking up fabric for workout gear in the Garment District). I’ve been focusing on mix and match styles that I would feel comfortable in in the big city and at home in my more rural town. So far I have lots of Gertie Pencil skirts in various fun prints, Bluegingerdoll Bonnies and Violets, and a knit maxi skirt that I hope to duplicate before the big trip. I hope to take some shots of me wearing my new garb in fun locations around NYC so stay tuned for that.
Accounting for these to factors I have a rather unique Me Made May Pledge:
I, Sarah of Sarah Kate Creations, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’15. I endeavor to wear three handmade garments a week for the duration of May 2015. I also commit myself to bringing a 75% handmade wardrobe with me to NYC in the last week of May 2015.
Yah! So excited for Me Made May! If you want to follow along with me I will be posting all of my outfits to Instagram. You can follow me at sarahkatecreate.
